Bhubaneswar, 15 June (H.S.) : Odisha is set to accelerate its transition towards electric mobility, with the Transport Minister announcing that the government will no longer purchase petrol and diesel vehicles for official use.

Addressing the issue of restrictions on government vehicle usage, the Minister stated that strict instructions have been issued to reduce fuel consumption by 10% across government departments. Officials have also been directed to increasingly adopt electric vehicles (EVs) for official transportation.

The Minister emphasized that incentives have already been introduced by the department to encourage EV adoption among government employees. The initiative is aimed at promoting cleaner transport, reducing carbon emissions, and lowering recurring fuel expenses in public administration.

As part of the broader policy shift, the government has indicated that procurement of new petrol and diesel vehicles for official use will be discontinued going forward. The focus will now remain on expanding EV usage and strengthening supporting infrastructure.
