Guwahati, 13 June (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday asserted that the Assamese language would continue to thrive for generations, stating that “the Assamese language will remain alive as long as the sun and moon exist.”

Addressing concerns related to language and identity, the Chief Minister said in a press conference after cabinet meeting on Saturday that those who genuinely love Assam should declare Assamese as their mother tongue during the upcoming Census. He, however, emphasized that merely writing Assamese in the Census without using the language at home would serve little purpose.

Dr. Sarma also remarked that the Char-Chapori Parishad need not advise the government on which language should be recorded in the Census, adding that language choices should reflect people’s actual linguistic practices.

Referring to broader social issues, the Chief Minister said that the state's primary concerns are “land jihad” and “love jihad,” and stressed that no one should consider the Assamese community weak.

The Chief Minister made these remarks while speaking on issues related to the Assamese language, identity, and demographic concerns in the state.-----------
