New Delhi, 12 June (H.S.):
Film actor Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking an injunction against the release of the film titled “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy”, claiming violation of his personality and publicity rights.
In his petition, Salman Khan stated that the film is based on the 1998 black buck hunting case associated with him. He argued that the release of the film would infringe upon his personality rights and could potentially prejudice his public image.
The plea further contends that the makers of the film have used a lookalike character resembling him, including depiction of a similar bracelet worn by the protagonist. It also alleges that the producers are misusing his name during promotional activities related to the film.
According to the petition, the release of the film could adversely impact the ongoing legal proceedings connected to the black buck hunting case, which remains pending before the Rajasthan High Court. The plea also warns that such portrayal could influence the perception of the case and affect its trial.
The petition states that Salman Khan had earlier issued a legal notice to the film’s producers, demanding a halt on its promotion and release. The notice reportedly emphasized that since the matter is sub judice, any sensationalised depiction could interfere with judicial proceedings.
It is also noted that the film’s first poster was recently released, followed by the launch of its teaser. The film reportedly dramatizes events linked to the black buck poaching case and courtroom proceedings, along with portraying the alleged rivalry between Salman Khan and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
To avoid direct legal conflict, the filmmakers have reportedly renamed the characters inspired by real-life figures—Salman Khan’s character has been fictionalized as “Ayan Khan,” while the gangster-inspired character has been named “Lion Bishnoi.”
The film has been directed by Bharat S. Shrinet and produced by Amit Jani.
