Srinagar, 12 June (H.S.): Police today seized eight vehicles, including tractors and tippers, during separate operations against illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals in Shopian and Ganderbal districts.

A police spokesperson said that in Shopian, four tractors were seized in the Rambiara Nallah area for their involvement in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents. During routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Heerpora intercepted the vehicles and registered a case under relevant sections of law. Investigation has been taken up,, he said.

In Ganderbal district, police seized four vehicles, including three tippers and one tractor, for illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals in the jurisdictions of Police Station Lar, Police Station Gund and Police Post Nagbal. The vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorization in violation of prescribed norms, the spokesperson said, adding that the matter was referred to the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed the requisite penalties.
