Siliguri, 11 June (H.S.) : West Bengal Panchayat Minister and senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), describing it as a “gang” rather than a political organisation and claiming that the difficulties currently confronting the party were “inevitable.”
Speaking to reporters in Siliguri, Ghosh said that the TMC had functioned like an organised group driven by personal interests rather than political ideology.
“Just as there are organised gangs, there was a TMC gang. What is happening to the party today was inevitable. Opportunists had joined it for personal gains and are now leaving. We had said long ago that if Trinamool ever lost power, the entire structure built around it would begin to collapse. That is exactly what is happening,” he said.
Responding to questions about recent political developments in New Delhi and the future of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee amid reports of internal turmoil within the party, Ghosh refrained from making detailed comments.
“Let things unfold first. There will be enough time to comment when the picture becomes clearer,” he said with a smile.
Ghosh was in Siliguri to review the functioning and infrastructure of the TMC-run Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad. During the visit, he said his primary objective was to assess the institution’s requirements and identify areas needing improvement.
“The Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad still lacks basic infrastructure. I have come to understand its requirements in detail, what infrastructure is needed, what staffing pattern is required, the number of personnel needed, and the overall challenges facing the institution. My objective is to examine these issues and make the necessary arrangements,” the minister said.
Ghosh also indicated that he had two additional assignments during his visit to North Bengal but declined to disclose further details.
His remarks come amid heightened political speculation over developments within the Trinamool Congress and evolving equations in West Bengal politics.
