Kolkata, 11 June (H.S.) : A political controversy erupted on Thursday after relief materials were allegedly recovered from the party office of former Trinamool Congress MLA and noted kirtan singer Aditi Munshi in Rajarhat-Gopalpur.

The development came after BJP MLA Tarunjyoti Tewari visited the office and oversaw a search operation at the premises. According to the BJP legislator, several government-distributed relief items were found stored in different rooms of the party office.

Speaking to reporters, Tewari alleged that materials such as tarpaulins, sarees and dhotis, meant for public welfare and relief distribution, had been kept inside the office instead of being distributed among beneficiaries.

“The work that should have been done by the police is now being carried out by us. During the search, we found a large quantity of materials, including tarpaulins, sarees and dhotis,” Tewari claimed.

Following the allegations, personnel from the local police station arrived at the spot. According to the BJP MLA, the relief materials had been allocated by the government for distribution among the public but were allegedly being stored at the party office. He further claimed that a larger quantity of such materials had previously been kept there and had been removed before the search took place.

Tewari also levelled allegations against Aditi Munshi and her husband, Debraj Chakraborty, accusing them of withholding relief materials intended for the public. He additionally claimed that intoxicating substances were recovered from the premises during the search.

The incident has triggered a fresh political confrontation in the area, with the BJP demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged misuse of relief supplies. Police have initiated a probe into the matter and are examining the allegations.

As of Thursday evening, no official response had been issued by the Trinamool Congress regarding the claims made by the BJP MLA.
