
New Delhi, 11 June (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underscored the importance of agriculture and farmers, stating that farming is not merely a means of livelihood but the very foundation of society and national sustenance. Emphasizing the vital contribution of farmers, he said agriculture remains the cornerstone of human life and a key pillar of nation-building.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said that the food produced through the hard work and dedication of the country's farming community provides support and sustenance to millions of people. He noted that agriculture plays a central role in nurturing society and strengthening the nation.
Quoting a Sanskrit subhashita, Prime Minister Modi wrote:
Te krishim cha sasyam cha manushya upa jeevanti;
Kristradhirupajeevanyo bhavati ya evam veda.
Explaining the essence of the verse, he said that agriculture and crops form the foundation of human existence. A person who understands this truth works to advance agriculture in the right direction and contributes significantly to the welfare and nourishment of society through farming.
The Prime Minister also referred to the hashtag “#12YearsOfFarmerProsperity” in his message, highlighting the importance of agricultural growth and farmers' welfare. He stated that agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy and that the tireless efforts of farmers are crucial to ensuring the country's food security.
Expressing his deep respect for the farming community, Modi said that a strong agricultural sector is essential for India's overall development and self-reliance. He described farmers' contributions as a vital foundation of the nation's progress and prosperity.
The Prime Minister reiterated that empowering farmers and strengthening agriculture remain indispensable to achieving sustainable economic growth and securing the future of the country.
