Kanpur, 11 June (HS): Nisarga Adhikary, a cybersecurity
researcher, has been hired as the OSINT and Threat Intelligence Engineer at
C3iHub, IIT Kanpur's cyber defense research lab. The child recently gained
attention after he discovered severe security flaws in the Central Board of
Secondary Education's Online Submission of Marks (OSM) system.
The 19-year-old previously stated that identifying
weaknesses in the CBSE platform took him only 20 minutes. Adhikary said that
answer sheets and question papers kept on an AWS bucket were publicly available
online, which raised serious concerns about the CBSE's digital infrastructure. Adhikary's
nomination is undoubtedly a big step forward in his professional career,
highlighting the country's growing acknowledgment of ethical hacking and
responsible vulnerability disclosure.
CBSE-affiliated schools utilize the OSM site to post and
manage their students' examination results. It is a crucial part of the board
examination process, allowing schools to submit marks online for compilation
and result preparation. Adhikary previously indicated that he uncovered many
security flaws in the portal, which might expose sensitive student and
school-related information if abused by fraudsters.
