New Delhi, 11 June (H.S.): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered another political setback on Thursday as its Rajya Sabha member, Prakash Chik Baraik, resigned from the Upper House of Parliament. He submitted his resignation to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat and requested that it be accepted with immediate effect.
In his resignation letter, Baraik wrote, “I hereby resign from the membership of the Rajya Sabha and request that my resignation be accepted with immediate effect. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Deputy Chairman and all officers and staff of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for their cooperation and assistance during my tenure.”
However, Baraik did not specify any reason for his resignation. The Rajya Sabha Secretariat will now complete the constitutional and procedural formalities related to the acceptance of his resignation.
The development comes amid a series of departures from the Trinamool Congress in recent months. Several senior leaders have resigned from both the party and their parliamentary positions, adding to the challenges facing the organisation.
Earlier, Rajya Sabha members Sushmita Dev and Sukhendu Sekhar Roy had also stepped down from the Upper House and severed ties with the party.
Following Baraik’s resignation, the Trinamool Congress’ strength in the Rajya Sabha has been reduced to 10 members. His decision has triggered widespread political speculation, although the party has not yet issued any official statement on the matter.
Political observers are closely watching the developments, as the resignation adds to a series of recent exits that have raised questions about the party’s parliamentary strength and internal dynamics.
