Guwahati, 11 June (HS): Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu on Thursday reviewed the budget proposals of the Higher Education and School Education Departments during a meeting held at his office conference hall. The meeting was attended by senior departmental officers and directors, where key priorities, ongoing initiatives and future strategies for strengthening the state's education sector were discussed.

During the review, the minister highlighted the government's commitment to large-scale recruitment in the education sector. He stated that around 80,000 teacher posts are expected to be filled, while the newly elected government plans to provide employment in two lakh positions overall, of which nearly 40% will be reserved for teachers.

The meeting also focused on measures aimed at improving the academic environment in schools and enhancing educational infrastructure across Assam. Officials reviewed ongoing programmes and discussed the roadmap for implementing budgetary commitments effectively.

Addressing concerns related to students’ academic burden, Pegu said schoolchildren would no longer be required to carry unnecessary books. He emphasized that students should bring only those books and materials that are part of the daily curriculum, helping reduce the weight of school bags and making learning more student-friendly.

The minister reiterated the government's resolve to strengthen both school and higher education through improved planning, recruitment and policy implementation in the coming years.-----------
