Dibrugarh (Assam), 11 June (HS): Assam Minister for Industry and Comerce, Cultural Affairs etc. Bimal Borah on Thursday said the state is steadily emerging as India’s strategic gateway to Southeast Asia under the Centre’s Act East Policy, emphasizing that the initiative is opening new avenues for trade, investment, connectivity and economic growth.
Borah made the remarks after beginning his day by interacting with residents of Tingkhang constituency at his MLA Service Centre. He noted that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently entrusted him with the responsibility of the Act East Policy Affairs Department, describing it as a vision that extends beyond administrative functions and aims to position Assam as a key link between India, Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
Highlighting the objectives of the Act East Policy, the minister said the initiative seeks to transform future development goals into reality through enhanced trade and investment, stronger connectivity with Southeast Asian nations, expanded international partnerships and the promotion of Assam’s rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
He stated that the policy framework has created significant opportunities for the state by improving access to international markets, attracting fresh investments and strengthening logistics infrastructure. According to Borah, these developments are expected to generate new prospects for farmers, entrepreneurs and the youth while accelerating Assam’s economic progress.
Referring to the success of the Advantage Assam initiative, Borah said the state is no longer viewed merely as India’s eastern frontier but is increasingly being recognized as a crucial gateway connecting the country with Southeast Asia. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is moving forward with a shared commitment towards growth and global engagement under the vision of “A for Assam.”-----------
