New Delhi, 10 June (H.S.):
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has partnered with Meta, the US-based technology giant, to develop a 168-megawatt data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility is expected to be completed within the next two years and will include provisions for future capacity expansion beyond 168 megawatts.
The collaboration marks another significant milestone in the relationship between the two companies. Meta had invested US$5.7 billion in Jio Platforms in 2020, strengthening its strategic presence in India’s rapidly growing digital ecosystem.
The proposed facility will be Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre in India and is being viewed as a major step in the country’s emergence as a global hub for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure. Under the arrangement, Meta will lease capacity from the facility to support its growing technological and AI-driven operations.
The project is expected to significantly enhance India's data processing and AI computing capabilities while contributing to the development of advanced digital infrastructure in the country.
Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani described the partnership as a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure sector. He said the development of Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre in India demonstrates the country’s readiness to play a leading role in the global artificial intelligence revolution.
Ambani further stated that Jamnagar is poised to become a major hub for hyperscale AI computing and expressed pride in partnering with Meta to realise this vision.
The project is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global technology landscape while accelerating investments in AI infrastructure, cloud computing, and next-generation digital services.
