Chandigarh, 01 June (H.S.): Director General of Police
Gaurav Yadav on Monday directed all field units to intensify police presence
and patrolling throughout the state. The instructions come in line with the
vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure a safe and secure
environment for citizens.
The directions were issued during a state-level law and order review meeting
held virtually with senior police officers, including Special DGPs, Additional
DGPs, IGPs, DIGs, Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police.
The meeting focused on reviewing the crime situation in the state and enhancing
area domination through proactive policing measures.
Addressing the officers, DGP Gaurav Yadav instructed all Commissioners of
Police and SSPs to increase the number of police nakas (checkpoints) in their
respective jurisdictions. He emphasized that maximum vehicles should be
thoroughly checked and mobile patrols should be intensified to deter criminal
activities and create a foolproof security network across Punjab.
The DGP also directed district police chiefs to ensure the deployment of
maximum force on the ground so that citizens feel secure and develop greater
confidence in the police system. He stressed that visible policing plays a
crucial role in crime prevention and maintaining public trust.
During the meeting, DGP Yadav reviewed the progress of the Punjab
Government’s flagship anti-crime campaigns, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ and
‘Gangstran Te Vaar’. He highlighted the achievements made under these
initiatives and called for further intensification of efforts against drug
traffickers and organized criminal networks.
Revealing a strategic shift in the anti-drug campaign, the DGP said Punjab
Police is now focusing heavily on dismantling the financial backbone of the
narcotics trade. He stated that strict legal action is being taken against
illegal hawala operators who facilitate the movement of drug money through
international networks.
“Our focus is on identifying and targeting those who channel funds through
Middle Eastern countries and route them to Pakistan using illicit hawala
networks. These financial channels supporting the drug trade will be completely
dismantled,” he said.
The DGP also emphasized people-friendly policing and directed district
police chiefs to strengthen engagement with citizens, local associations and
Village Defence Committees. He said stronger police-public partnerships would
play a vital role in maintaining peace, improving intelligence gathering and
enhancing community safety across the state.
