Kolkata, 09 May (H.S.) :

The official X account of Kolkata Police on Saturday unfollowed former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee shortly after Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

At the same time, the list of accounts followed by Kolkata Police included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the Prime Minister’s Office, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and his office.

The development came days after the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were declared on May 4, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 207 seats to form the government in the state for the first time.

Suvendu Adhikari, who won from the Nandigram and Bhabanipur Assembly constituencies, took oath as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal at a grand ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Ground.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, several Union ministers, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states and BJP national president Nitin Nabin.

Amid the political transition, the social media activity of Kolkata Police drew attention. As of Saturday afternoon, the official X account of Kolkata Police was following 42 accounts, excluding those of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee’s X handle and Facebook page reportedly identified her as the Chief Minister of West Bengal till around noon on Saturday. However, following Adhikari’s swearing-in ceremony, the designation was removed and changed to only “Mamata Banerjee”.

Along with Suvendu Adhikari, five ministers also took oath as part of the first BJP cabinet in West Bengal. Their portfolios are expected to be announced later.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Jorasanko Thakur Bari to pay tribute to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary.
