Bhubaneswar, 09 May (H.S.): The Odisha government is planning to establish five dedicated cyber courts across the state to ensure faster disposal of cyber crime cases and deliver timely justice to victims. The announcement was made by Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Saturday.
The Minister said that these special courts will exclusively handle cyber-related offences, which have witnessed a significant rise in Odisha in recent years. The initiative aims to streamline judicial processes and reduce delays in cases involving digital crimes.
He stated that the primary objective of the move is to ensure speedy trial and effective adjudication of cyber crime cases, thereby strengthening the justice delivery system for victims of online offences.
Harichandan further informed that the judges appointed to these courts will have specialised expertise in cyber laws and modern technology. This, he said, will help in better understanding complex digital evidence and ensuring more efficient handling of technical aspects during trials.
The proposed cyber courts are expected to significantly improve the handling of cases related to online fraud, financial scams, hacking, identity theft, and other emerging digital offences, which have become increasingly common with the expansion of internet usage.
In addition to cyber courts, the Odisha government is also planning to set up seven special courts dedicated to cases involving women. This initiative is aimed at ensuring faster hearing and disposal of cases related to crimes against women and strengthening the overall framework for women’s safety and justice in the state.
