New Delhi, May 30 (H.S.): Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday criticized the Central Government over the alleged mismanagement and disruptions witnessed during the conduct of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2026.
In a post on the social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi said that NEET, CBSE, SSC, and now CUET four major examinations involving nearly 10 million students had all been plagued by problems, with not a single examination being conducted smoothly. He alleged that while the government claims excellence in governance, it has failed to conduct even one examination efficiently, resulting in a severely strained education system.
Rahul Gandhi further asserted that the very generation whose future is being jeopardized today would, in time, hold the government accountable and demand answers for these shortcomings.
Notably, significant disruption was reported on the first day of the CUET examination conducted by the National Testing Agency. The morning session on Saturday commenced approximately two hours and fifteen minutes behind schedule because the online question papers could not be uploaded on time. The issue was reported at several examination centres across the country, including those in Jaipur.
The lack of clear communication at many centres left candidates and their parents confused and uncertain about the examination schedule. In several locations, parents expressed their dissatisfaction and frustration over the situation.
Explaining the disruption, the NTA stated that the problem arose due to a technical malfunction at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the agency responsible for managing examination operations. According to the agency, a server-related issue prevented the timely upload of question papers. Consequently, the examination, which was scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., could not commence until 11:23 a.m.
In addition, the NTA revised the schedule for the second shift of the examination. The test, originally slated to begin at 3:00 p.m., was rescheduled and commenced at 4:00 p.m. following the technical disruptions.
