New Delhi, May 29 (HS): Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil has called for greater public participation in supporting sanitation workers during the ongoing heatwave and extreme summer conditions. He appealed to citizens to show sensitivity, respect and cooperation towards sanitation workers, stating that small gestures such as providing water, shade and respect can make a significant difference to their well-being.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Patil said that despite the intense heat prevailing across various parts of the country, sanitation workers continue to work tirelessly to keep villages, streets and public places clean, safe and healthy. He said their dedication and spirit of service remain inspiring even while working under harsh weather conditions and direct sunlight.
The Union Minister noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also appealed to citizens to look after one another with compassion and sensitivity during these challenging days. Echoing this message, Patil urged people to provide drinking water to sanitation workers in their neighbourhoods, encourage them to take short breaks in the shade and treat them with dignity and respect.
He said cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the government or sanitation workers but a collective responsibility of society as a whole. The Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) has also appealed to citizens to ensure access to water, shade and humane treatment for sanitation workers engaged in public service.
Patil said that by extending support to sanitation workers with humanity, compassion and sensitivity, citizens can contribute towards building a cleaner, healthier and more caring India.
