New Delhi, May 29 (H.S.): The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Central Government and social media platform X while hearing a petition challenging the blocking of the X account of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which recently came into the spotlight following remarks by the Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court. However, the court declined to order the immediate restoration of the account.

The matter is scheduled to be heard next on July 6.

The court observed that any decision regarding the restoration of the X account would be taken only after hearing the government’s response. However, it directed a review of the blocking order. The court further stated that the review committee must examine all aspects of the blocking order every two months. It also directed that the committee’s findings be placed before the court.

CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke filed the petition in the High Court through advocate Nakul Gandhi. The X account of the Cockroach Janata Party was blocked following inputs from the Intelligence Bureau, which reportedly recommended the action on grounds of national security. Subsequently, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology directed X to block the account.

It may be noted that the Cockroach Janata Party recently emerged on social media platforms as a satirical online movement. Its founder, Abhijeet Deepke, is currently based in Boston, United States.
