New Delhi, May 29 (H.S.): Delhi Police’s Mukherjee Nagar Police Station team has detained five Bangladeshi nationals as part of a special drive against illegal immigrants. All five were found to be residing illegally in Delhi despite the expiry of their visas. Police have produced them before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and the deportation process has been initiated.
According to police, information was received regarding a minor dispute between two groups in the Mukherjee Nagar area. During the inquiry, police noticed two young men conversing continuously in Bengali. Local residents became suspicious of their activities and alerted the police.
Acting on the information, a team from Mukherjee Nagar Police Station questioned the two suspects. During verification, it was revealed that they were living in a rented accommodation in Indira Vikas Colony along with three other Bangladeshi nationals. Police subsequently detained all five individuals.
During interrogation, it emerged that all the accused had arrived in Delhi from Bangladesh by air at different times. Their stated objective was to secure employment opportunities in Greece. Police said they were waiting for interview calls and job offers for Greece.
The five individuals had reportedly been residing in Delhi since December 2025. However, the validity of their visas had expired during this period, after which they continued to stay in India illegally.
The detained Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Rahmat Ullah (23), Mohammad Ashraful (23), Salman Bhuiyan (25), Mohammad Rashel (37), and Mohammad Rahim Miyan (33).
Investigation further revealed that after arriving in Delhi, the group had initially stayed in various hotels. Later, they shifted to a rented house in Indira Vikas Colony with the assistance of one Ganpati Biswas, a resident of Malda in West Bengal. Police are currently searching for Ganpati Biswas and probing his role in the matter.
Police officials stated that after completing the required legal formalities, the process of deporting the five individuals to Bangladesh through the FRRO has been initiated. The North-West District Police added that its campaign against illegal immigrants will continue in the future as well.
