New Delhi, May 28 (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday paid floral tributes to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on the occasion of his birth anniversary at the Central Hall of the Constitution House. Several Union ministers, Members of Parliament, and former MPs also paid homage to Veer Savarkar on the occasion.

Among those present at the tribute ceremony were Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers Jagat Prakash Nadda, Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, and BJP national president Nitin Navin, along with several other dignitaries.

The portrait of Swatantryaveer V.D. Savarkar installed in the Central Hall of the Constitution House was painted by noted artist Chandrakala Kumar Kadam. The portrait was officially unveiled on February 26, 2003, by the then President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Notably, Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar, was born on May 28, 1883. He was one of the leading revolutionaries of India’s freedom movement, as well as a poet, writer, and social reformer. He played a significant role in the struggle against British rule and inspired the youth toward patriotism and revolutionary activities.

Veer Savarkar demonstrated extraordinary courage and determination during his imprisonment in the Cellular Jail of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A strong advocate of social reform and modern nation-building, Savarkar promoted rationalism, the eradication of social evils, and the vision of a self-reliant India.

His life and ideals continue to inspire patriotism, courage, and social reform even today.
