New Delhi, May 23(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to distribute appointment letters to more than 51,000 newly recruited youth under the 19th edition of the Rozgar Mela today, in a high‑profile push to highlight India’s focus on large‑scale public‑sector employment. Speaking virtually at 11:00 a.m., Modi will address the young recruits across the country and project the scheme as a centrepiece of his government’s employment‑generation agenda.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Rozgar Mela is a flagship initiative designed to fast‑track recruitment into central government departments and create secure, long‑term jobs for younger Indians amid persistent pressure on the labour market. So far, 18 such job fairs have led to the distribution of nearly 1.2 million appointment letters, underscoring the scale of the programme and its role in expanding the formal public‑sector workforce.
The 19th Rozgar Mela will be held at 47 locations across 20 states and Union Territories, with candidates physically present at mega venues while the Prime Minister joins via video link.
Selected candidates will be appointed in a range of ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, and Department of Higher Education, among others.
Railways accounts for a significant share of the new posts in this tranche, in line with the government’s repeated emphasis on infrastructural expansion and transport modernisation. Other central ministries have also finalised engagement orders, particularly in posts related to security, public health, and technical and administrative support roles.
