New Delhi, May 22 (H.S.): A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court of India challenging the new three-language policy introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter next week.

During the mentioning of the case before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi submitted that the new CBSE three-language policy makes it mandatory for students from Class IX onwards to study two additional languages.

According to the policy, students are required to study three languages in total, including two Indian languages.

Rohatgi argued that suddenly making the study of two additional languages compulsory for Class IX students could adversely affect their preparation for the Class X board examinations.

He stated, “How will students suddenly learn two new languages and appear for examinations in Class X? This policy is likely to cause significant difficulties for students.”

The policy is scheduled to come into effect from July 1.

The petition has been filed by students, parents and teachers challenging the implementation of the new language policy.
