Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with several other leaders, paid tribute on Friday to social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary.

In a post on X, Birla said, “Respectful salutations to the great pioneer of the Indian Renaissance and social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary. Raja Ram Mohan Roy gave Indian society a new consciousness by making truth, logic, education and a scientific outlook the foundation of social change. By striking a balance between Indian culture and modern ideas, he envisioned an India that was rational, progressive and rich in humane values. His ideas awakened a renaissance spirit in Indian society, which later gave new direction to social and national movements.”

Amit Shah said that by establishing the Brahmo Samaj, Raja Ram Mohan Roy made people aware against social evils, superstitions and discrimination. He added that Roy’s contributions in the fields of education, social reform and public administration also strengthened the foundation of modern India. Shah said that Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s thoughts and ideals will always continue to illuminate the path of nation-building and social awakening.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that Raja Ram Mohan Roy made the spread of education and modern thinking the basis of social awakening. He said that his life inspires us to keep moving forward in the effort to build a knowledge-driven, reform-oriented and progressive India.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Raja Ram Mohan Roy was a pioneer of the Indian Renaissance who freed society from rigid traditions and helped build an awakened society. He said that his invaluable contribution as one of the key architects of modern India will be remembered for generations.

BJP president Nitin Nabin said that Roy’s contribution to the removal of social evils, the protection of women’s rights, and the fields of education and social reform is unparalleled. He said that Roy’s ideals and thoughts will always continue to inspire the creation of a strong, harmonious and aware society.

Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar said that Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s courageous and historic efforts to promote women’s education and fight social evils gave Indian society a new direction. He said that his visionary thinking and message of humanity and equality continue to awaken and inspire society even today.
