New Delhi, 22 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared to swing into action immediately after returning from his five-nation visit. On Thursday evening, he chaired a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers and reviewed the performance report cards of various ministries.
The high-level meeting, which began at around 5 p.m. at Sewa Teerth on Thursday evening, continued for nearly four-and-a-half hours. The marathon session witnessed extensive deliberations on governance reforms, administrative efficiency, and the government’s long-term “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
During the meeting, nearly nine ministers made detailed presentations on the functioning and achievements of their respective ministries. In addition, the performance of several ministries was reviewed comprehensively. Discussions were also held with ministers regarding the effective implementation of government schemes, inter-ministerial coordination, and future policy strategies. The review included an assessment of ministers’ past performance as well as an evaluation of their two-year report cards.
Special emphasis was laid on the government’s economic policies, development projects, and future roadmap in light of the prevailing situation in West Asia.
During the meeting, the External Affairs Minister briefed the ministers on the outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent five-country visit. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and J. P. Nadda were not present at the meeting as they were on official foreign visits. However, nearly all other Cabinet Ministers and Ministers of State attended the session.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened the Council of Ministers meeting after a gap of one year, with the previous such meeting having been held in 2025. Following the meeting, speculation regarding a possible Cabinet reshuffle has intensified. It is believed that a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet may take place next month.
