New Delhi, 21 May (H.S.): Hamza Burhan, one of the masterminds behind the Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, was killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Muzaffarabad, located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He sustained multiple bullet injuries. Following the attack, his associates rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to foreign media reports, the 27-year-old Hamza Burhan was associated with the banned terrorist organisation Al-Badr. His real name was Arjumand Gulzar Dar, and he was also known within militant circles by the alias “Doctor.” Born in Kharbatpora village of the Ratnipora area in Pulwama district, Hamza had reportedly travelled to Pakistan in 2017 under the pretext of pursuing higher education. He later joined the outlawed terror outfit Al-Badr and eventually rose to the rank of commander.
Hamza was allegedly involved in several terror attacks in the Kashmir Valley. He was considered one of the key masterminds behind the Pulwama suicide attack carried out on February 14, 2019. Reports stated that unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on him outside the AIMS College in Muzaffarabad, causing him to collapse on the spot.
Notably, with Hamza’s assistance, terrorists carried out the suicide attack on a CRPF convoy at Lethpora on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway in Pulwama. The attack claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel. The incident had significantly escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, following which India conducted strikes on multiple terrorist camps inside Pakistan.
