New Delhi, 16 May (H.S.):

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday launched the ‘Jal Sanchay Abhiyan’ from District Park in West Vihar. Under this initiative, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has begun a mission-mode campaign to restore 101 important water bodies across Delhi by August 30.

In a post on his social media account X, the Lieutenant Governor said that in the first phase, priority will be given to functional ecological restoration through intensive desilting and cleaning of catchment areas in order to maximise groundwater recharge during the monsoon season. He said that, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-term vision for water security, this campaign seeks to revive Delhi’s water sources and strengthen the city’s ecological resilience.

The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to complete the restoration of water bodies within the stipulated timeline. He said, “We are committed to reclaiming Delhi’s aquatic heritage and building a greener, more water-secure and ecologically resilient capital.”

The Lieutenant Governor also urged all residents to join this movement through ‘Jan Bhagidari’ and contribute towards building a greener, water-secure and developed Delhi.
