Hooghly, 16 May (H.S.): Members of a Trinamool Congress fact-finding team faced anger and protests from the family of a deceased party worker while visiting Goghat in Hooghly district on Saturday to look into allegations of post-poll violence.

The five-member delegation, which included Birbaha Hansda, Pratima Mondal and Nirmal Maji, visited several areas in Arambagh and met families of Trinamool workers.

When the team reached the residence of deceased TMC worker Sahadev Bag in Goghat, family members expressed strong resentment, alleging that nobody from the party had visited them earlier to inquire about their condition.

The family also alleged that local party leaders had failed to stand beside them after the incident.

Speaking on the matter, Birbaha Hansda claimed that an atmosphere of fear and intimidation continued in the area and said even local leaders were feeling threatened. She said the delegation would approach the police regarding the issue.

Sahadev Bag’s body was recovered from behind a Trinamool party office shortly after the Assembly election results were declared.

The family had alleged that he was murdered for political reasons. However, police had claimed that the death was caused due to excessive consumption of alcohol.

The Trinamool fact-finding team alleged that a proper and comprehensive investigation into the incident had not been conducted so far.
