Lucknow,

14 May (HS): In April 2026, Uttar Pradesh collected GST of Rs 10178 crore. With

this, Uttar Pradesh surpassed Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra

is ranked top with Rs 22929. Uttar Pradesh earned significant GST collection in

the first month (April) of the fiscal year 2026-27. The state has risen to

second place in the country, having collected Rs 10178 crore in Goods and

Services Tax (GST). With this performance, Uttar Pradesh has surpassed large

industrial states such as Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra

remained top with revenue of Rs 22929 crore. According to GSTN statistics, the

government received record GST revenue of Rs. 2.42 lakh crore in April 2026.This

is considered to be the largest monthly collection ever.

Experts

say that this increase was due to increased imports, increased demand in the

domestic market, and better tax compliance. Industrial investment in the state,

expressway-based industrial corridors, expansion of the MSME sector, and the

impact of the digital tax system have strengthened the tax base. GST collection

has increased due to increased business in the industrial areas of Noida,

Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Purvanchal. According to senior tax expert

Dinesh Kumar Jain, the benefits of investments received through the Global

Investors Summit and groundbreaking ceremonies are now being seen on the

ground. Tax collections are expected to increase further in the future as new

industrial units begin to open.

Result

of improved business environment: State Tax Commissioner Dr. Nitin Bansal said

that post-settlement SGST collections have increased by 46% compared to April

2025. This is a result of improved business environment in the state and

stricter tax administration.
