Lucknow/Barabanki,

14 May (HS): Senior Uttar Pradesh authorities urged people to cycle and walk to

work on Thursday, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to preserve

petroleum products and cut pollution. Radha Krishan Dhiman, Director of Sanjay

Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow rode cycle from

his home to the institute to promote sustainable transportation. According to

an official release, Dhiman stated staff members, employees, and students will

be urged to reduce excessive automobile use on and near campus, preferring to walk

or cycle wherever possible. The institute also intends to install bicycle

stands across the campus. He stated that lowering automobile dependence will

help preserve petroleum, decrease pollution, and promote health and fitness.

Meanwhile,

District Magistrate Ishan Pratap Singh and Additional District Magistrate

Nirankar Singh proceeded from their home to the Collectorate Office in

Barabanki. Singh encouraged citizens and authorities to walk whenever feasible

to conserve fuel and help the environment. As part of a broader austerity

campaign, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a 50% decrease

in official convoys across the state on Tuesday and recommended more use of

public transportation, virtual meetings, and work-from-home arrangements.

The

state government has started implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal

for fuel conservation amid US-Iran tensions. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

started this initiative with his own convoy and reduced the number of

government vehicles by 50 percent. Following his move, several ministers,

including Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, have also reduced their security and

official convoys. After halving the number of vehicles in his fleet, Deputy CM

Brajesh Pathak said that the Prime Minister's appeal will be followed.

National

interest is paramount. Excise Minister Nitin Agarwal has also halved the number

of vehicles in his fleet. Apart from this, Minister of State for Skill

Development Kapil Dev Agarwal and Minister of State for Jal Shakti Dinesh

Khatik have also reduced their escort vehicles. Minister of State for Stamps

and Registration, Ravindra Jaiswal, has decided to use only one escort vehicle.

Minister of State for Sugar and Cane Development, Sanjay Gangwar, has returned

all the vehicles in his fleet and has decided to travel with just one vehicle.

Tourism

Minister Jaiveer Singh has also cut his own fleet and held meetings with

officials to reduce the use of government vehicles. In a meeting held on

Wednesday, he instructed the regional tourism officer not to visit the

directorate without prior permission from senior officials and to conduct

meetings virtually.

Tour

programs of assembly committees postponed: As part of the fuel conservation

campaign, previously scheduled study tours of various parliamentary committees

of the Assembly have been postponed until further notice. Assembly Speaker

Satish Mahana issued the order following an appeal from the Prime Minister.
