Agartala, 14 May (HS): Amid concerns over fuel conservation measures, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday stated that the state currently has adequate fuel reserves and there is no need for panic buying or rationing.
Addressing reporters, the Chief Minister said the state government has already initiated steps to reduce fuel consumption in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for responsible usage of resources. As part of the move, 50% of Group C and Group D government employees in Tripura have been directed to work from home to help conserve fuel.
Saha said the Prime Minister’s advisories are always issued after careful consideration and recalled that similar public cooperation measures were adopted successfully during the Covid period. He noted that vehicular movement on roads has already reduced significantly, reflecting growing public awareness about avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption.
The Chief Minister revealed that after returning from Guwahati on Tuesday, he held discussions with the Director General of Police and the Chief Secretary before implementing the new measures to ensure smooth administrative functioning without creating public anxiety.
Highlighting the larger challenge of fuel imports, Saha said the country needs to adopt precautionary measures collectively. He expressed confidence that the situation would improve soon and announced that the Tripura government is planning to further strengthen the public transportation system to reduce dependence on private vehicles.
“There is sufficient fuel stock available in the state and no instruction regarding rationing has been issued,” the Chief Minister added.--------------
