Guwahati, 14 May (HS): Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and opposition parties over their opposition to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), alleging that they are indulging in vote bank politics.
Addressing the issue, Saikia said that by opposing the UCC, the opposition parties, including the Congress, would eventually lose even the minority votes they had received in the past. Saikia was talking to media persons after a program on Thursday. He remarked that despite repeated political setbacks, the opposition leaders have failed to understand the sentiments of the people.
Using a sharp analogy, Saikia said, “Even when the boat sinks, they refuse to get down from the tin roof,” accusing the opposition of remaining disconnected from public opinion despite facing political setbacks.
He further alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi are continuing to practice vote bank politics by opposing the proposed UCC.---------------
