Guwahati, 14 May (HS): Acting on a specific intelligence input, the Kamrup Police with the help of Special Task Force (STF) intercepted a bus at Amingaon and seized a massive consignment of narcotic substances valued at approximately ₹21.36 crore. Five alleged drug peddlers were apprehended during the operation.

According to the Assam police CPRO, information was received that a bus bearing registration number AS 06 AC 7555 was transporting narcotics from Kwakta in Manipur to a neighbouring state through Amingaon. Investigators had also learnt that only the suspected traffickers would be travelling in the vehicle and no regular passengers were on board.

Based on the input, the police team intercepted the bus and conducted a thorough search. During the operation, officials recovered 197 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 2.561 kilograms, excluding the weight of the soap box covers. In addition, around eight kilograms of opium hidden inside a secret compartment of the bus were also seized.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Latif (33), Md Taher Ali (38), Md Islamuddin (38), Md Latip (30), all residents of Kwakta and Phuchakhei areas of Bishnupur district in Manipur and Md Ajmer (37), a resident of Imphal East district.

Police stated that further investigation is underway to trace the network involved in the interstate drug trafficking operation.-----------
