Lucknow,
13 May (HS): Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's austerity measures, the
Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday stopped all pre-scheduled research visits
of its different parliamentary committees till further notice, according to
authorities. According to an office memorandum issued by the Assembly
Secretariat, all study travel programmes have been put on hold with immediate
effect due to national interest and current circumstances. The decision was
made under the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana. Respecting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plea, the assembly has agreed to postpone
parliamentary committee study trips so that all resources and preparations may
be used effectively in accordance with national goals, Mahana stated.
He
went on to say that it was the role of public leaders and institutions to join
in any call made in the national interest while demonstrating sensitivity and
responsibility, depending on the circumstances. The directives issued by
Pradeep Kumar Dubey, Principal Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat, are
effective immediately, according to authorities. On May 10, Modi issued a
nationwide austerity appeal, encouraging individuals to reduce fuel use,
postpone gold purchases and overseas travel, and even return to work-from-home
arrangements owing to rising economic pressures created by the West Asia
crisis.
