Kolkata, 14 May (H.S.): Activities resembling a branch gathering of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were reportedly held inside the campus of Jadavpur University on Tuesday morning, triggering discussion over the beginning of Sangh-related programmes at the university following the recent political change in West Bengal.

According to sources, the programme was conducted in two phases for nearly an hour near the Triguna Sen Auditorium inside the university campus. The activities included yoga sessions, yogasanas, anulom-vilom and kapalbhati exercises.

Participants also reportedly engaged in reading biographies of eminent personalities, singing Sangh songs and performing “Shivaji Pranam”. The sudden organisation of such activities inside the campus reportedly surprised several residents and people associated with the university.

Some university staff members were also seen participating in the programme.

Palash Maji, state secretary of the West Bengal University Employees Council, said such activities had now begun and would continue in the future as well.

He stated that similar programmes had earlier been attempted on the same ground but had faced resistance at that time. “Now the situation has changed,” he remarked.

Reacting to the development, Biplab Roy said the objective of RSS activities was to spread nationalist ideas and inspire people. However, he added that it was being verified whether official permission had been taken for organising the programme inside the Jadavpur University campus.

Former Vice-Chancellor Buddhadeb Saha said he was unaware of any such activity being conducted on the campus.

He further stated that efforts were being made to maintain unity among teachers, students and staff members so that no divisive activities are carried out in the name of any organisation.
