Bhubaneswar, 13 May (H.S.): In view of the global fuel crisis triggered by the prevailing situation in West Asia, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reduced the number of vehicles in his official carcade by half as a mark of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation.
According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi had urged citizens across the country to adopt austerity measures and minimise petrol consumption amid rising global economic and energy concerns.
Responding to the appeal, Chief Minister Majhi decided to scale down the number of vehicles used for his personal security and official movement.
The Chief Minister also appealed to the people of Odisha to reduce the use of private vehicles and make greater use of public transport systems wherever possible.
He advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and use vehicles only for essential purposes in order to conserve fuel during the ongoing global crisis.
Apart from fuel conservation, the Chief Minister also urged people to avoid unnecessary expenditure, including non-essential foreign travel and excessive purchase of gold, stressing the importance of financial prudence during uncertain global conditions.
The move is being seen as a symbolic yet significant step by the Odisha government to promote responsible consumption and support national efforts aimed at tackling the impact of the global fuel shortage.
