Kolkata, 13 May (H.S.) : In a significant move aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and discipline within the force, Kolkata Police has issued new directives mandating a ‘Master Parade’ every 15 days across all city police divisions.

According to official instructions issued by Police Commissioner Ajay Nand, the initiative is designed to enhance coordination, teamwork, and overall preparedness among police personnel deployed in law and order duties.

A senior police officer said the decision follows observations of gaps in coordination during recent law and order situations, including public demonstrations, processions, and crowd control operations. The shortcomings were particularly noted among personnel of the unarmed branches in handling dynamic field conditions.

The new guidelines make it mandatory for every police division in the city to conduct a Master Parade once every fortnight. In addition, specialised training programmes focusing on crowd management, team building, and modern policing techniques will also be introduced.

Attendance in these training sessions has been made compulsory for personnel across all ranks, from constables to senior officers.

As part of the directive, each division will maintain a dedicated register documenting attendance and participation details of personnel undergoing training. Monthly reports will also be submitted to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) for review.

Sources within the department said there has been an increase in political events, religious gatherings, road blockades, protests, and other public order situations in the city, placing additional demands on frontline policing.

Officials emphasised that modern policing requires not only tactical capability but also situational awareness, quick decision-making, and effective coordination among team members.

Senior officials of Kolkata Police expressed confidence that the initiative will improve discipline, operational efficiency, and on-ground preparedness, while also boosting morale and confidence among personnel.

Implementation of the new directives has already begun, with divisions preparing schedules for the upcoming training and parade cycles.
