Kolkata, 13 May (H.S.) : With the Bengali month of Boishakh nearing its end, heat and humidity have once again intensified across South Bengal, while several districts of North Bengal continue to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Only a few days ago, continuous rain and gusty winds had brought pleasant weather conditions to Kolkata and several parts of South Bengal, especially during the mornings and nights. However, over the past couple of days, the weather pattern has changed significantly, with rising temperatures and increasing humidity making conditions uncomfortable once again.

According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department at Alipore, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the minimum temperature stood at 26.8 degrees Celsius.

The city witnessed bright sunshine from Wednesday morning, and weather officials said there is little possibility of rainfall in Kolkata due to predominantly clear skies. High moisture levels in the air are expected to increase humidity-related discomfort further. Meteorologists have also predicted that temperatures in the city could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius by Friday.

Dry and Hot Conditions Likely in South Bengal

Weather conditions across South Bengal are expected to become progressively drier over the next few days, with almost no chance of rainfall till the weekend. Temperatures are likely to increase gradually till Saturday, particularly in the western districts where the heat is expected to feel more intense.

The weather office has also warned of strong, dry winds during afternoon hours in some areas, adding to the discomfort caused by high humidity.

Heavy Rainfall Alert Continues in North Bengal

In contrast, North Bengal is likely to continue experiencing heavy rainfall till Saturday. Several districts, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Uttar Dinajpur are expected to receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms on Wednesday.

The forecast also predicts gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour during thunderstorms.

Similar weather conditions are expected on Thursday, with heavy rainfall warnings continuing for Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts. However, meteorologists said rainfall activity is likely to gradually decrease from Friday onwards, while temperatures in North Bengal may rise slightly after Saturday.
