
Bhubaneswar, 13 May (H.S.): Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Kantabanji MLA Ayub Khan passed away at his residence in Kantabanji of Balangir district on Wednesday. He had been unwell for the past few days. The news of his demise was confirmed by his son, Dr. Amjad Ali Khan.
Ayub Khan was regarded as a prominent political figure in the Kantabanji and Nuapada regions and played a vital role in strengthening the organisational base of the BJD in western Odisha.
He was elected as an Independent MLA from 2004 to 2009 and later served as a BJD legislator from 2014 to 2019. During his political career, Khan earned respect for his organisational abilities, leadership qualities, and dedication to public service.
Known for his close connection with the people, he contributed significantly to the development of the region and welfare initiatives for local residents.
Expressing deep sorrow over the demise of the veteran leader, former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik paid tribute through a post on X.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ayub Khan, senior organizer of the Biju Janata Dal and former legislator from Kantabanji. In his absence, the party has lost a skilled organizer and compassionate leader. The work he has done for the development of the region and the service of the people will forever immortalize him,” Patnaik wrote.
He further stated that he had spoken to Khan’s son, Dr. Amjad Ali Khan, and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family while praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
