New Delhi, 12 May (H.S.): Over 12,600 stolen and recovered mobile phones were handed back to their rightful owners in a special ceremony held at the Delhi University sports complex on Tuesday under the Delhi Police’s ‘Operation VISHWAS’. The event took place in the presence of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, along with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Goleccha and other senior police officers.

Lt Governor Sandhu, in a social‑media post on X, said he felt deeply gratified seeing the happiness on the faces of the citizens as more than 12,600 recovered mobile phones were returned to their genuine owners. He described the large‑scale drive under ‘Operation VISHWAS’ as proof of the administration’s commitment to delivering effective governance and an efficient police‑oversight system for every individual.

Stating that the initiative is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, the Lt Governor added that the government is using technology as a tool for empowerment and trust.

“Today, a mobile phone is a vital repository of a person’s memories, work, and digital identity. Returning these devices is a step toward building a more responsible and citizen‑centric society,” he said.

The Lt Governor congratulated the Delhi Police for its relentless efforts and for achieving an impressive recovery rate of 74 per cent this year. “This sends a clear message that any item taken illegally will be traced and restored to its rightful owner,” he noted.

He added that the target is to build a developed Delhi that is safe, modern, and firmly rooted in the rule of law.
