(HS): Former Maharashtra Women’s Commission chief Rupali Chakankar has been
summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for enquiry related to money laundering
case against Nashik’s fraudster Ashok Kharat. Besides sexual exploitation,
Kharat is facing charges of cheating, amassing illegal properties and money
laundering. Chakankar had to resigns after her name surfaced in the case.
In cases
relating to extortion Chakankar is likely to be interrogated soon. As per
preliminary information the amount involved is more than Rs 70 crore.
Chakankar was
interrogated a couple of days ago by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Kharat had opened several fake accounts in banks and cooperative societies and
his name as nominee in all the accounts. Chakankar had admitted that she had
submitted her persons documents to her Guru Ashok Kharat, without knowledge of
its use or misuse.
