New Delhi, 12 May (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital on the eve of International Nurses Day on Monday. During the visit, the Chief Minister walked through different wards, met the nursing staff, and praised their selfless dedication and service ethos. This information was shared on Tuesday through an official release.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister spoke warmly with the nurses, saying that nursing is not merely a profession but the pinnacle of humanity and sensitivity. “If doctors treat the disease, nurses give patients a new lease of life through their compassion and care. Your patience in difficult circumstances is an inspiration for all of us,” she added. She interacted specially with nursing staff hailing from various states such as Kerala, Rajasthan, Punjab and others, and said that the success of Delhi’s world‑class health services rests largely on the contributions of these dedicated healthcare workers from every corner of the country.
The Chief Minister also informed the staff that the Delhi government has ended a 27‑year wait by increasing the stipend of nursing interns by a record 27 times, raising it from ₹500 to ₹13,150 per month. This decision has brought significant relief to 180 nursing interns. In the same spirit, the government has also issued appointment letters to 1,388 nursing officers and 41 paramedical staff members to strengthen and expand health services.
Rekha Gupta assured the staff that the Delhi government is fully committed to improving the work culture for healthcare workers and safeguarding their rights. “Respecting the nursing staff, who serve patients day and night, is the responsibility of both the government and society,” she said. She extended her wishes to all nurses on the eve of International Nurses Day, appreciating their dedication and encouraging them to continue their noble service with health, happiness, and professional growth.
