Guwahati, 12 May (HS): Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora on Tuesday again took oath as a minister in the new Assam government during the swearing-in ceremony held in Guwahati.
Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior leaders of the BJP-led NDA alliance.
Earlier in the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term after the NDA secured victory in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for the alliance’s third straight term in the state.
A senior leader of the AGP, Bora has been representing the Bokakhat Assembly constituency since 2016. He had earlier served as MLA from Golaghat between 1996 and 2001. Over the years, he has handled several important portfolios, including agriculture, horticulture and food processing, animal husbandry and veterinary, urban development and town and country planning in successive Assam governments.
Born in Golaghat district, Bora was actively associated with the Assam Movement during his student days. He held several positions in the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), including general secretary and president, before joining active politics through the AGP in 1995.
He later emerged as a key organisational figure in the regional party, serving as working president before taking charge as AGP president in 2014. Bora was inducted into the Assam Cabinet after winning the Bokakhat seat in the 2016 Assembly elections.-----------
