Lucknow, 11 May
(HS): Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, said on Monday that
Uttar Pradesh's cabinet expansion should result in noticeable improvements in
the lives of the poor, laborers, farmers, young, and women. She cautioned that
otherwise, people may see it as purely a political adjustment and an additional
strain on government resources. In an X post, the former Uttar Pradesh chief
minister stated that cabinet reshuffles and expansions were normally internal
political matters of the ruling party, and hence she did not think it was
proper to make direct remarks on development. However, she stressed that the
overall influence of such exercises should be seen in governance and public
welfare. The impact of such actions should be reflected in the welfare of
ordinary people, particularly in improving the lives of the poor, laborers,
farmers, and youth, as well as safeguarding women's safety and dignity.
Otherwise, people would see it as a political ploy
to raise the strain on government resources, according to Mayawati. Mayawati
emphasized that all segments of society, particularly the weaker and more
vulnerable, should feel safe in their lives, property, and faith, and that they
should be treated fairly. It would be acceptable if people from all walks of
life, particularly the poorest, felt safe in their lives, property, and
beliefs, and that they were being treated fairly. This should be reflected in
the way the administration and its ministers operate, she added. She noted that
governments and ministers have the primary constitutional obligation of
ensuring justice and security for all citizens. Referring to the attack on a
BJP politician in Lucknow, Mayawati said that worries about law and order and
the safety of the Brahmin community have resurfaced.
Following the recent life-threatening attack on a
young BJP politician from the Brahmin community in Lucknow, conversations have
resumed about the state of law and order, as well as the perception that the
Brahmin population in Uttar Pradesh is not only ignored but also insecure, she
stated. Mayawati described the situation as highly disturbing, contrasting it
with the term of BSP regimes in the state.
She stated that under all BSP regimes, every part
of society, including the Brahmin community, received justice and security
under the policy and philosophy of 'Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay' (For the
benefit and pleasure of all), as well as strict law and order. It was generally known that BSP administrations protected life, property, and
religious freedom for all communities, she said.
