New Delhi, 11 May (H.S.): A massive cultural gathering titled Janjati Sanskritik Samagam (Janjati Cultural Conclave) will be held at the Red Fort Grounds in New Delhi on May 24, 2026, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary year of tribal freedom fighter and national icon Birsa Munda.
Organisers said the conclave is being envisioned as a historic national event celebrating the cultural identity, traditions and heritage of India’s janjati communities. Around 1.5 lakh participants from more than 500 tribal communities across the country are expected to attend the programme, with participants travelling to Delhi at their own expense.
A major highlight of the event will be a grand cultural procession featuring janjati men and women dressed in traditional attire representing different regions of the country. The processions will begin simultaneously from five separate locations in Delhi, symbolising the diversity and cultural richness of tribal traditions, before converging at the Red Fort for a large public gathering.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accepted the invitation to attend the event as the Chief Guest, organisers announced.
The conclave is being organised under the central message: “तू-मैं एक रक्त (You and I are one blood): Forest dwellers, village dwellers and city dwellers — we are all Indians.”
According to organisers, the key objectives of the event include remembering the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, promoting the rich cultural traditions of tribal communities, encouraging cultural dialogue and strengthening social harmony across the country.
The organisers further stated that extensive preparations are underway in Delhi to host participants arriving from remote forest and hilly regions across India. Around 20 departments and several committees have reportedly been formed to manage accommodation, food, transport, healthcare, security and sanitation arrangements for the participants.
The event is being coordinated by the Janjati Suraksha Manch. National Co-Convenor Rajkishor Hansda, Delhi State Convenor Ashok Kumar Gond and former judge Prakash Uike appealed to the media to provide wide coverage to what they described as an important national cultural event.
Further details and the complete programme schedule are expected to be released shortly.
