Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains says ‘Sikhya Kranti’ reforms delivering

results as rural pass percentage reaches 95.35%

Chandigarh, 11 May (H.S.): Students from rural areas have outperformed

their urban counterparts in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 10

examinations this year. Rural students recorded an impressive 95.35 percent pass rate, compared to 92.98 percent in urban areas.

Sharing the details on Monday, Punjab Education

Minister Harjot Singh Bains

described the results as strong evidence that the state government’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’ initiative is producing

tangible outcomes on the ground.

He said a total of 2,69,505 students appeared for the Class 10 board

examinations this year, out of which 2,54,744

students passed, taking the overall pass percentage to 94.52 percent.

According to the official data, 1,74,958 rural students appeared for the

exams and 1,66,830 cleared them,

resulting in a 95.35 percent success rate.

In comparison, 94,547 urban students

appeared and 87,914 passed,

recording a 92.98 percent pass percentage.

Calling it a “historic reversal” of previous

trends where urban students often led the performance charts, Bains said the

over 2.3 percentage point gap

reflects the success of the government’s focused investments in education.

He credited improved school infrastructure,

better facilities and regular teacher training programmes for the improved

performance of rural students.

“This is not just a result sheet. It is the

report card of a government that believes in opportunity, not privilege,” Bains

said while congratulating students, teachers and parents.

Meanwhile, Harleen Sharma of Saraswati

Senior Secondary School, Jaito (Faridkot) emerged as the state topper

by scoring 646 out of 650 marks (99.38%).

Manimahesh

Sharma of Government Senior

Secondary School, Chanauli Bassi (Rupnagar) secured the second

position with 645 marks (99.23%),

while Riya Rani of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Chief Khalsa

Diwan, Model Town, Hoshiarpur also scored 645 marks (99.23%) to claim the third spot.
