Kolkata, 11 May (H.S.) : two days after senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh was sworn in as a minister in West Bengal’s first BJP government, his family members appealed to the new administration to ensure justice in the 2024 RG Kar rape and murder case.

Speaking from their residence in Kharagpur on Monday, Ghosh’s sister Subhashini Paria expressed hope that her brother would work for the welfare of the state, particularly the Jungle Mahal region.

“I hope my brother will look after the state, especially Jungle Mahal. I also appeal to the new BJP government to ensure justice for ‘Abhaya’,” she said, referring to the postgraduate trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024. The victim has widely been referred to as “Abhaya” in West Bengal.

Ghosh’s mother Pushpalata Ghosh also expressed happiness over her son’s induction into the state cabinet and voiced confidence in his ability to discharge his responsibilities effectively.

“He is hardworking and sincere. He will definitely try to fulfill the promises made to the people,” she said.

Pushpalata Ghosh added that she had no personal demands from her son but wanted him to focus on governance and justice.

“I will ask him to work for the state and ensure justice for ‘Abhaya’ and her family,” she said, while also urging the new government to improve women’s safety and security across West Bengal.

Dilip Ghosh received a warm welcome at his Kharagpur residence after taking oath as minister, with party supporters greeting him with garlands.
