Kolkata, 11 May (H.S.) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is set to hold the first Cabinet meeting of the newly formed BJP government at Nabanna on Monday, marking the government’s first official working day after the swearing-in ceremony at Brigade Parade Ground.

Adhikari, who had earlier described his vision as the “rebuilding” of West Bengal, will visit the state secretariat for the first time as Chief Minister. Before heading to Nabanna, he is scheduled to hold an organisational meeting with state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya in the morning.

The first Cabinet meeting under Adhikari’s leadership is expected to begin at 12 noon. Apart from the Cabinet session, the Chief Minister is also scheduled to chair three major administrative review meetings during the day. At around 4 pm, he will additionally meet BJP’s victorious legislators at Nabanna.

The BJP government in West Bengal was formally sworn in on Saturday at Brigade Parade Ground, making it the first BJP-led government in the state’s history. Monday will therefore mark the administration’s first full day in office.

Soon after taking oath on Saturday, Adhikari had already begun reviewing the state’s administrative situation. He held an initial meeting at a temporary office set up by the Public Works Department near Dharmatala. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dushmant Nariala, Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh, and Director General of Police Siddhanath Gupta.

Later that night, the Chief Minister travelled to Contai in Purba Medinipur district, where he remained until Sunday evening before returning to Kolkata.

According to sources, Adhikari’s first administrative review meeting at Nabanna on Monday will involve top state bureaucrats. This may be followed by a meeting with district magistrates later in the day. In the evening, the Chief Minister is also expected to hold discussions with senior police officials, including the Director General of Police, the Kolkata Police Commissioner, and officers heading various police zones across the state.

Ahead of the Chief Minister’s arrival at Nabanna, senior officers of both Kolkata Police and Howrah Police inspected the security arrangements at the state secretariat on Sunday. Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda and Howrah Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi visited the premises along with several senior officers.

Police officials reviewed security arrangements across the Nabanna complex, including the conference halls where the Chief Minister is scheduled to hold meetings. A high-level security review meeting was also conducted inside the secretariat.

Along with Adhikari, five other ministers took oath on Saturday. The new ministers include Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik. The cabinet reflects regional and social representation, with leaders from North Bengal, South Bengal, tribal communities, Matua groups, and Rajbanshi-dominated areas included in the ministry.

However, the allocation of portfolios for the newly inducted ministers had not been announced till the time of reporting. More ministers are also expected to take oath in the coming days.

After assuming office, Adhikari said his government’s priority would be the “reconstruction” of West Bengal. “A lot of damage has been done to West Bengal. Culture has been destroyed. Education has been lost. We will rebuild West Bengal,” he had said after the swearing-in ceremony.

Political observers are now closely watching Adhikari’s first administrative meetings at Nabanna, expecting key signals regarding the priorities and direction of the new BJP government in the state.
