Bhubaneswar, 11 May (H.S.): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, alleging irregularities in the recently held Rajya Sabha elections and seeking immediate action in the matter.
The party has alleged that two BJP legislators were illegally issued second ballot papers during the voting process. BJD claimed that the issuance of duplicate ballots to MLAs Upasana Mohapatra and Purna Chandra Sethi was completely unlawful and violated electoral procedures.
The BJD delegation urged the Election Commission to initiate appropriate action against the alleged irregularities without delay.
The delegation included Leader of Opposition Prasanna Acharya, Chief Whip of the Opposition Pramila Mallik, Rajya Sabha election polling agent Pratap Deb, Deputy Chief Whip of the Opposition and authorised agent Dr. Arun Kumar Sahu, MLA and counting agent Dr. Sasmit Patra, and other party representatives.
According to the party, the issue pertains to the Rajya Sabha elections held on April 28, during which the alleged irregular issuance of second ballot papers took place. Following the incident, BJD had earlier submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission of India.
