Guwahati, 11 May (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday recalled India’s historic Pokhran nuclear tests conducted under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and urged people to reaffirm their commitment to technological advancement on the occasion of National Technology Day.

In a social media message shared on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that on this day in 1998, India emerged before the world as a nuclear power following the successful nuclear tests at Pokhran under Vajpayee’s leadership. He described Vajpayee as the visionary behind a “New India.”

Sarma also highlighted Assam’s technological progress in recent years, stating that the state has witnessed remarkable development in multiple sectors. He referred to major initiatives ranging from the semiconductor project at Jagiroad to the expansion of digital education facilities for students.

Calling National Technology Day a historic occasion, the Chief Minister appealed to citizens to unite once again in support of the country’s technological growth and innovation-driven future.-----------
