Chandigarh, May 10 (H.S.): Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the party of promoting “hooliganism” and attempting to disturb law and order in Punjab through violent protests.
Jakhar alleged that the BJP would not allow Punjab to be turned into “Mamata Banerjee’s Bengal” and condemned incidents of violence reported during protests in Balachaur and Ludhiana. In a message shared on social media, Jakhar claimed that in Balachaur, AAP MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi—who had joined AAP from the Shiromani Akali Dal—allegedly entered a BJP office in the presence of police personnel and assaulted the district BJP president while vandalising the premises. He said similar complaints had also emerged from Ludhiana.
“Arvind Kejriwal should understand that Punjabis are watching everything. No matter how many political dramas are staged, action against those looting Punjab will continue, and the law will also reach those hiding behind the scenes,” Jakhar said.
He alleged that Kejriwal had first given leaders a “license to loot” after inducting them into the party and was now allowing them to resort to violence. Jakhar demanded immediate police action against those involved in the alleged attack and urged law enforcement agencies to act without delay.
The BJP leader said his party respects everyone’s democratic right to protest but stressed that no one should be allowed to take the law into their own hands. He added that politics should remain within the limits of dignity and democratic values.
Taking another swipe at AAP, Jakhar said it was ironic that a party born out of anti-corruption protests was now holding demonstrations in support of leaders facing corruption allegations. He further claimed that video footage clearly showed AAP leaders entering BJP offices and attacking party workers. Jakhar said such incidents reflected AAP’s “moral decline” and accused the party of trying to divert attention from corruption allegations. He asserted that the people of Punjab would not tolerate the alleged misuse of power and warned that those involved in corruption and violence would be held accountable.
